@ 10 Months old!

Happy 10 months Jovann! :)

The day after you turned 10months, we brought you for your first Studio Photoshoot hehee. You were in your best cheeky laughy mood in the first half of it. However, in the recent week, you have started prefering to be mobile (crawling, standing, sitting playing) than to be carried, so during the photoshoot, you screamed with frustration if any of us carried you up for a shoot), so David racked his brains on how to overcome this little obstacle, in order to get some family shots of the whole family. Ah Gong, Ah Ma, Gong Gong, Ma Ma were all there! We actually got back all the photos that day (super efficient), but will show the album during your 1st Birthday Party, coming up on 15 September 2007 (Saturday)!!! :)

Recently, ever since Mommy played Throw the Ball with you, you have started showing more interest in the FIFA World Cup Limited Edition Mini Soccer Ball that Daddy's friend bought back from Germany last year (take aeroplane one leh!). It's of the perfect size as you can hold it easily in one hand, and it can bounce and roll and be kicked as well, hehehee. On Sunday (22 July), Daddy played Bounce the Ball with you, and you had such a tickling good time you were screaming with laughter for close to 10mins! hehehee. You laughed each time you threw the ball and Daddy catches it.

You have started developing an affection for your Pooh Bear that Daddy chose for you from Kidsmall IMM. Every night we reached home, Mommy will bring you to your cot and Pooh Bear will greet you. You seemed pleased to see him and past few days have been greeting him with a "Ah...ah....AH!". You have also been kissing him when we asked you to "Kiss kiss Pooh Bear". :)

Tzlk Tzlk...!! Love my peaches...

9 July Monday. At Ma ma's place, you were eating your Oatmeal cereal with peach (You love peaches since we introduced that a week ago). You were making this funny clucking sound with your tongue that people make when they are enjoying their food. It sounded like "Tzlk! Tzlk!" Yours sound very loud, and you were obviously relishing the spoonfuls of peach. Every "Tzlk" you make, you laugh or smiled hehehe. Daddy took our his handphone to record it and emailed it to me immediately. It brightened up my day considerably then.

Think the video can't really hear the loud "tzlk tzlk tzlking". hehehe.

Recent Bedtimes

16 July...Tonight, when washing you up for bedtime, you kept patting your own chest, then patted your tummy. So Daddy started making this hip hop rapping motion with his hand and yours, saying " Yo yo yo! Man!" at the same time. and that sent you off into chuckles again and again hehee.

**

**

Recently, to calm you down at night when washing you up (sometimes you scream bloody murder once we put you down on the changing table), We had to think up new things. Some latest that sent you laughing were:

- When mommy press down gently on your yummy during massage and say "press press", you laugh. :) But now you don't.
- When Daddy "smells" your diaper and pretends it stinks and screws up his face and say "eeeee...chao chao!", you chuckle so loudly!
- When Daddy plays peekaboo with you from the side of the changing table.
- When Mommy pretends to hiccup like you. Each "Hick!" earns me a chuckle
- When Daddy sings the song Eensy Weensy Spider with accompanying actions
- When Daddy whips out his magic wand (the cotton bud) to dig your ear, you immediately calm down. Once, when he's done, you gave a contented "Nggggg...". Daddy asked if you want more, and after that, you went "ngggg..." again.

And recently, during bedtime when I am nursing you and you are not asleep yet, you can be tickled by the wierdest things. Once, you were playing with the buttons on Mommy's blouse, and Mommy said "Buttons." and you looked up at me with twinkling eyes and started chuckling! I did it again, and you chuckle, with this lovely gurgling sound that starts deep in your throat. What a lovely sound. I know I am risking overstimulating you by making you laugh so loud so late, but I cannot bear to miss this cosy moment with you, with you looking up at me like that and smiling. Love you so much my son...

Best Breastfed Baby Contest

Jovann entered the semi finals! hehee.

The prerequisite was that the baby should be breastfed for at least 8 weeks, and we are entered by category according to age. By the time the preliminary rounds came, Jovann is 8months old, so he is in Category B.

The preliminary rounds was held in June, at some multipurpose rooms in KKH. that day we didn't take any photos. We were ushered in after registration (taking of weight), during which Jovann kept smiling at the young pretty girl who is taking his weight. He was in a good mood. The girl kept gushing over him, and exclaiming to her male colleague "He so cute! he kept smiling at me!". Yes Jovann, Mommy knows you like pretty girls, you are pretty obvious about it. :P

In the room, there was a mom with a 18mths old boy in a superman costume called Dominick, and another mum with a 10mths old girl called Delia. Both were shy, the babies I mean ... though Jovann was busy babbling and smiling at them.

It's our turn! One judge busied herself entertaining Jovann and testing his response to people, playing with toys etc. The other judge asked me a series of questions. Some of them were "are you still breastfeeding", "do you pump at work and how much each pump", how much he drinks at night before he sleeps", "how many times you nurse", "can he say ma ma da da pa pa", "can he stand up and cruise" etc etc. The questions were easy hehehe. When they were done, and I picked up Jovann to leave, he actually waved bye bye at them. :)

Then, we went to the Heinz baby booth to enquire where is my baby's favourite cereal coming in stock? and we got a favourable reply. Apparently, they just ordered in bulk and the packets are being packed in the warehouse now. Yippee! We took some photos at the booth of him eating Heinz baby jar food. As Jovann has never eaten any baby jar foods before, it was no wonder he screwed up his face hehehe.

2 weeks later! We recieved the awaited letter! Jovann has passed the preliminary rounds and entered Semi Finals! Hooray!

(seriously, I have no idea what the prize will be, but it just feels cool that he is a "best breastfed baby!") It will be on 10 July at IMM.

When we reached there, he was sleepy, so I walked around with him (after registration) while he slept in the Ergo for 45mins. :)

The organisers were very very nice. When it was his turn and the nice young lady knew he was asleep, she said to let her know when he is awake so that they can let him go next. That he will need time to freshen up else not fair to him. So sweet right, Jovann? The lady kept talking to you, and to all the babies. Can see she loves babies a lot.

Daddy whiling away his time reading golf/car magazines. Watching over the stroller.

The registration and weighing station. you were 9.1kg. Somehow I think their scales overweighed you hehehe.

You are awake!! you are in a good mood very soon after. :) Think you had a good nap.

Into the room we trooped. This time, besides the usual breastfeeding questions the same judge asked, the other judge also gave you a series of toys and books to see how you interact with them. For the ball, you refused to give it back to the judge, holding it out then changing your mind hehehe. Overall, think you didn't do the things they wanted you to do. But its okie, darling, coz this is all for fun isn't it? Whats important is, you were enjoying yourself throughout the entire thing, because you kept smiling sweetly at them! hehe the other judge told you jokingly "no use smiling at me!!". But she's wrong, that's all that matters - You being happy. Mommy walked out of the room feeling pleased and blessed you are a happy breastfed baby. Even if you are not the best breastfed baby in the contest, you are the BEST in OUR LIVES! :) :) :) *SMOOCH*

Kuay Tiao Soup in chicken broth

14 July - Your menu today.

Kuay Tiao Soup with minced meat, sliced fish, sweet potatoes and Jap daikon cooked in chicken broth.

It looks like this initially.

It looks like this after blending.

Yummy!!! Mommy finished up the soup that you didn't want. After blending, it kinda don't resemble kuay tiao anymore hahaha. I fed the soup as a side, but you screw up your face after drinking 1,2 soup spoons of it, and pushed my hand away when I try again. But you ate up all the kuay tiao and ingredients. I tried to add more soup to the mixture so you can take in more of the nutrients in the soup, don't let it go to waste dearie, all this are for you!

New way with an old toy

Recently you like to stand up and push your Fisher Price Walker. Mommy is afraid you may not be able to balance so is always behind to catch you. But you seem to be able to. Just that when you push it forward, your bumb stick out behind, looks so darn cute hehehe. You push and pull at it till you get tired. :)

First Time at the Airport!

3rd Uncle's going to Canberra, Syndey to study for 3 whole years!

We sent him off with a bang, at a dinner at Whitebait and Kale, 7 July. The food was delicious, Mommy and Daddy suggested this place after a yummylicious Sunday Brunch here recently. At the dinner, Mummy and Daddy nearly swooned over the Bread and Butter pudding dessert, which Daddy usually don't like. Throughout dinner, I made a lot of noise and they had to take turns carrying me, Gong gong too. The Bellamy's toothy pegs didn't satisfy me, and after my steamed pear dessert I still kept making noise, wanting to get out of my chair. at 10pm, Daddy knew I was sleepy so we left early.

At Changi Airport, I had boundless energy after a 45mins nap in the Ergo. Its my FIRST TIME AT THE AIRPORT! I had my dinner at Delifrance bistro, then sent 3rd Uncle Ernest off to the departure gate, where we took a lot of photos.

We then went to the viewing gallery to watch his plane take off, but I was busy entertaining myself while being pushed around in the stroller by Mommy. My cousin Kieira was napping in her stroller, and Mommy kept shushing me when I screamed or babble to myself too loud.

We went to the cafeteria to have dinner, for the adults. Somehow Mommy managed to gobble dwn her steaming hot bowl of prawn noodle soup so she can entertain me. I spent my time standing up, sitting down, standing up, sitting down and babbling happily in the chair! Gong Gong commented my energy is boundless. Daddy said I am like the Energizer bunny. hehe!

2 New Dishes!

2 New Dishes!

Every weekday, Jovann will be having porridge for lunch and dinner if I am working. So I like to give him something new during weekends when I cook for him myself. :) This weekend is no exception, and I tried 2 yummy dishes for the first time!

Saturday Lunch. I made up this dish myself.
Baked Chicken breast with Organic Apples, Zuchinni and Carrots.
Why baked? coz I read that besides steaming, baking is the only method of cooking that preserves the most amount of nutrients during cooking process, even more than steaming.

Just to share what I did. First, preset the oven to about 180degrees.
1. Dice zuchinni, wash, and set aside with organic baby carrots
2. wash chicken breast and cut into 2 pieces
3. Only when about ready, cut and peel apple (I use about 3/4 of the whole apple, you can adjust the amount).

4. Heat up a tiny bit of unsalted butter in a pan, heat up the zuchinni and carrots, and sear the chicken fillet pieces until slightly brown outside. Remove from fire.
5. Arrange all ingredients in a small baking dish (mine is only about 10cm in diameter, just right for baby food!). Pour home made chicken stock over it (chicken stock was made with chicken bones, thighs, potatoes, onions, carrots, sweet potatoes, boiled and simmered for close to 3hours. Can also use plain water).

6. Cover with aluminium foil and bake in oven for 30mins.

7. Remove from oven, puree with the remaining chicken stock in the baking dish.

After puree-ing

Allow to cool slightly, and serve to hungry baby!

The taste of this dish is very light and refreshing, I love it! lucky, Jovann seems to feel the same way, though his first few mouths were a bit hesitant, he finish everything! Think I made too little. hehhee. One lesson learnt though, think I put too much chicken stock. After baking and when all ingredients are cooked, you need some stock to puree finely, but I still have a bit left so I drank it! hehehe.

Sunday Lunch.
This time, I used one of Gina Ford's recipe, but I replaced onions with organic leek bought from L'organic by my friend B :) ) Didn't like the idea of feeding Jovann onions. I also added some butternut squash for added colour.

Fish Lyonnaise.
Again, preheat oven to 190degrees celcius.
1. Slice a medium size potato into thin slices
2. Cube the threadfin, make sure there are no bones remaining and fish has been descaled and deskinned.
3. Cut the white part of the leek into fine slices (discard the leaves and greener part).
4. Thinly slice a small portion of butternut squash.

5. Arrange the ingredients in the small baking dish. One layer of potato, followed by cubed fish, followed by sliced leek (I drizzle it around) and squash, with a small bit of unsalted butter. Repeat this until you run out of ingredients or until dish is full hehehe, ending off with fish and a bit of butter.

6. Cover with home-made chicken stock. Drizzle cheddar cheese on top.

7. Bake in oven, uncovered (coz got cheese) for 30mins.
8. Remove from oven and puree in blender. Allow to cool and serve to baby!

When it was baking in the oven and the cheese was bubbling, the scent coming from it was unbelievable. Even when pureeed, it tastes good! hehhe. This dish, contrary to the Baked apple and chicken, is hearty and wholesome taste. As Jovann loves potatoes, I was right in assuming he will like this dish. hehehe, he gobbled it all up!

Lesson learnt, I put in too much cheese. In my own opinion, it was a bit salty for babies if eaten regularly. Next time I will only blend in half the cheese, or perhaps try to find unsalted cheddar.

Very happy this weekend!!!

You are 9months 14days old

on 18 June, you are 9 months old. It was a memorable occasion for me, coz 9mths marks the 3/4 point of the journey towards the milestone of your 1st yr birthday! and guess what? Mommy is starting to plan for that 1st birthday bash already! heheee... but still cracking my head where to hold it. When you are older maybe you can help me with this. :P

@ 9months,

  • You have a favourite toy. The Fisher Price Peekablocks train set, bought by Auntie Jenny and Uncle Ed. You figured out how to activate the train's music and enjoy holding your index finger on the button and feel the vibration when it rotates.
  • You can kiss kiss ppl on the cheeks and is quite affectionate. Your kisses are quite wet though, you do it with open mouth hehe. Once, you did it on Daddy on his mouth! Funnily, you seldom kiss me. When I am holding you and asked you to kiss, you feign ignorance. When someone else is carrying you and I asked you to kiss me, you lean towards me with ur arms open and prefer me to carry instead.
  • Crawling around and round, off and on the playmat, losing interest in things after 5 mins and always searching for something more interesting.
  • You like to crawl around when holding some balls/cubes/blocks in each of your hand!
  • Instead of your free style "crawling", and the rojak "right hand right leg, left hand right leg, dive bomb onto bed, right hand left leg left hand ..... (you get the gist) messy crawling style, you are now crawling properly and coordinated. :P
  • You love being on the push tricycle but is starting to climb off and step on the pedal. Cannot be too far from you
  • you love pulling yourself up onto sofas, chairs, activity table, high chair legs, then sit down, pull yourself up, then sit down. And you make this happy triumphant screech/squeal/shout/laugh whenever you stand up.
  • you refuse to clap hands still, but when I put your hands together and say clap clap, you squeal with laughter
  • you chased after stacking cups on the floor, hit them with your hands to make it bounce away, then chase after it again.
  • Your bedtime routine has somewhat changed. You used to have a diaper change, wash up, light massage, changing to PJs, nurse and sleep. Now you have a diaper change (earlier timing), wash up, light massage with concentration on tummy, change to PJs, brush teeth with rubber "brush" and soft cloth, read a book by Mommy, nurse and sleep. :)
  • You smile when I gently press your tummy during bedtime massage. When Mommy warming my palms with GAIA Baby organic baby lotion, you are anticipating the touch and starts to smile.
  • After digging/cleaning one of your ears (during which your expression resembles that of someone high on drugs), you will turn your head the other side indicating that I can now start on the other ear.
  • Mommy also noticed you tend to be more receptive to food now, having eaten semi solids for 3 mths now.
  • You have just started on fish (threadfin, salmon, silverfish) and beef, as well as asparagus, Mullers natural Baby yogurt, biscuits (Gerber puffs, Healthy Times Maple Teether, Bellamy's Organic tooth pegs), oatmeal cereal, cheese, Eden organic vege alphabet pasta. Going to start you on peach, egg yolk, Nestle teething biscuits, Baby Yoplait soon.
  • You drinking a lot of water recently, close to 200ml a day I think.
