Walrus eating a birthday cake

Have you seen a walrus eating a birthday cake?

J looks like one here hehe. Its Daddy's lunar birthday cake. Ah Gong, Ah Ma, Mommy, Jovann and Jazreel celebrated with him. :)

Jovann sang the birthday song together with Mommy and blew out the candles together with Daddy. :)

Jazreel and her new quilt

The cushion on the rocker was stained as she regurgitated milk, so I changed it temporarily to the quilt Auntie Joanne bought for her full month. The quilt is two sided, one side is of 3pretty fairies and the other side is PINK and full of flowers hehehe. The quilt has her NAME on it. :) I folded it and let her lie down. Can't resist taking photo of her dressed in pink lying on a pink quilt.

Things about little Jaz...

* You latch on so hard Mommy got sore nipples in the first 1-2 weeks after you are born. Thereafter Mommy is fine, but your latch is strong enough to leave gum marks on your lower lips after you unlatch. hehee.
* You drink for much shorter duration than gor gor. After Mommy's milk came in, you actually only drink at most 10mins at any of your feed. Sometimes even 5mins. Nothing I do can coax you to drink more. Its either your appetite small or Mommy's supply a bit better than that 1st time with gor gor. But after 4th week, your appetite increased, and is drinking more than 10mins usually now.
* Gor gor used to poo a lot of times in a day from 3rd, 4th week onwards. Little Jaz in first 3-4 weeks poo only a bit bit a few times a day. But from 4 week onwards, can don't poo for 3 full days, followed by 1-2 tsunamis that can go all the way up to the belly button and out over the back of the diaper.
* Your 1st night feed has more or less stabalised, but of course you still waking up for milk once or twice in the night.
* You love your baths and washing up times, and since that first few baths in your 1st week, now you enjoy your baths and wash up so much you are quiet and obliging, eyes opened so big observing your world and enjoying the water.

Jovann reading "Polar Bear...."

Jovann loves the book "Polar Bear Polar Bear What do you Hear" by Eric Carle. Daddy read to him and taught him the sounds each of the animals/birds/mammals (Boa Constrictor, Leopard, Hippopotamus, Flamingo.....) makes, and Jovann can now make the sounds, trying to sound like Daddy. He will go "Zebra, Zebra what do you hear.....I hear a Boa Constrictor, hissing in my ear......*HisssSSSS!*

Jazreel's Full Month

Its a smaller celebration compared to Jovann's full mth last time, but still super tiring for me. I had backache at the end of the night, and tried to stay in bed more the next day.

In the morning, Ma ma came to go through the ritual of bathing and cutting hair for Jaz. Jaz was sooooo enjoying the bath she didn't cry at all during the shampoo and bathing and dressing up. Ma Ma was so pleased she took an especially long time to bathe for her.

Fresh after bath

How can I pass of the chance to doll her up?? I have been waiting for this chance for years!!! a little girl of my own to doll up and dress hehee. Sorry Jaz, you have to put up with Mommy's whims just for today lah. I took off the uncomfortable headband after a short while.

Patridge Pear gifts for friends.

Mei mei yi po! She did the yummy pigs trotters in vinegar for your mommy. :)

That night, the kids had fun after Auntie Joanne laid out the stepping toy from ELC that she bought for J's 2nd birthday. They actually queued up to play!

When the aunties heard Jaz is awake, they carried her out to the living room to take photos hehe.

The cow designs packs that we delivered to my colleagues 2 days after the celebration. :) So cute lah!

We went to my office first, then proceed to my ex-colleagues office in River Valley. We spent a long long time at the 2nd office, coz these ppl are ppl I have know for years and really missed them as they are in different department now. The long awaited chit chatting was really really fun, and they love the cow gifts hehehe....

This pic is taken with 4 of them.

Thank you to all who came or gave gifts.

Updates on my little Boy

Updates on my little Boy

Jovann is 2yrs 2 mths old already. He has been a gor gor for a month, and I have not posted for nearly a month. Hehee...so many things about him recently that makes my heart melt or sends us into peals of laughter.

* He holds our arm and says "careful careful" when one of us gets on our knees to get something from under the table/bed/chair
* He loves the book "polar bear polar bear what do you hear", and likes to recite it even when the book not in front of him. Hehehe will upload the video later.
* He's been pee-ing standing in front of the toilet bowl for some time now. But we have not really toilet train him. Will do so after my confinement.
* When we play catch the ball with him, he will hold his arms out in front of him to catch the ball. when he throws it back to us, he insists we hold our arms the exact same way, and he will help us get into position, saying "ah neh ah neh" ("like this like this" in teochew). When we do catch it, he will pat our heads and say "clever boy" even if its Mommy he's talking to hehehe.
* He says "God Bless you, mei mei" when Jaz sneezes
* He finally recognises colours! yippee!! for a while, everything to him is PURPLE! now he recognises yellow, pink, black, brown, purple, green, sometimes blue and red.
* He loves to count but tends to double count things hehehee...
* Tonight when sitting on the toilet bowl, he suddenly called out to me and then told me "The octopus said....give away your shining scales...." hahaha...that was a line from the Rainbow Fish. The octopus is his favourite character in the book.
* When taking turns with Daddy to spin the Thomas spinning top one day, it was his turn to spin and he held out his hands, palm out, to Daddy and said "Don't Disturb!".
* When he wants to carry mei mei (which is often), he asked "I want to carry mei mei, PLEASE?" with his usual tilt of his head and an endearing lilt with the "please"
* When Jaz cries, he will pat her tummy gently and say "Mei mei, dun cry" with a plaintive voice that sounds as if he's about to cry himself. If mei mei stops crying, he will tell me "mei mei stop crying already".
* when kicking ball with Ah Gong Ah Ma recently, he accidentally kick his feet on a bed post hard. When Ah Gong made as if to sayang him, Jovann told him "不要紧" or "Nevermine".
* This is also the time he shows more understanding of the english language, and start stringing words to reply us in full sentences, in combinations/ways that we never taught him before. Example, when we asked him has he washed his hands, he used to reply us "no". but now he says "Not yet", which we didn't teach him before. And he has started using words like "also", "already", "somemore", "tonight" correctly hehee.
* Today when reading a book to him, I finished the book and he said "one more book" and I asked him to bring one over. He said "ok, Jovann find book", and turned to go, but turned back to me almost immediately and commanded me "Lie down there, don't move. (I was lying on the sofa)". hehee...so funny.
* Now when searching for something, he will go "where is it....where is it.....(then) there it is!". hehe.

Jovann is a Gor Gor

Been tired out the past month, and didn't post coz concentrating on resting, spending quiet time with my little one and big one, and also trying sleep training. the latter's tough.... hhmmm....trying to let her fall asleep on her own during naps. super not easy. I must say I am not even 50% THERE.

Enjoy spending the day time with her, watching her sleep, nap, make noise in her sleep, stretch, even her cries are music to my ears. ok, perhaps only the gentle orh-eh orh-eh cries, not the wailing pick-me-up-NOW-else-I-will-... kinda cries.. I love her orh-eh orh-eh baby cries, coz Jovann stopped crying like that after a week. Jazreel still crying like that after a mth. Love that sound heheee...

My little boy dotes on his little sis.

Every night he comes home with his Daddy he will call out "Mommy I am HOME!" or "来了来了!". He will then hold my thigh and guide me to the bathroom to accompany him to wash his hands, after which he will say "I wanna see mei mei". and we will bring him to her room. If she is falling asleep or sleeping, J will whisper very loudly "Tip toe....tip toe" and walk slowly with his back hunched as if he is tip toeing into the room, but actually his voice combined with his footsteps is enough to wake an elephant.

I will spend some time playing with him in the living room, while Daddy gets ready to bathe for him. Recently, Daddy asked who does he miss most Jovann said "I miss Mommy"....awwwwww.....love him.

In the morning without fail, he will ask to smell mei mei's head. Thats after we taught him how to, thereafter he wants to do it EVERYTIME he sees her. super cute. and he will say "nice" after that.

The first time they met each other at home, he kept on piling his toys into Jaz's rocker, something he never manage to do with his friends. Somehow with his sister, this is the first sign he loves to share things with her, and I am crossing my fingers it will continue. :)

Since she's a few days old, J has been requesting to carry mei mei. On the 14th day, we let him do it for the first time. That day, Auntie Joanne is visiting mommy and she saw how happy he was.

Holding her carefully...

Laughing happily at Auntie Joanne.

Looking so pleased with himself.

He did this when saying "tickle tickle" hehee...

This is what he did when we wanna bring her away. He held her tighter hehee.

Kissing her

Yummy!

Well... the BIG difference is Jovy was already 1 month old while his mei mei, Jazz was only 6 days old!!! kekeke

Go see go see!!!

My Birth Story

My Birth Story

Hubby and I have been planning and preparing for a hypnobirthing labour. In fact, we attempted it with Jovann last time, but didn't get the drug free birth I wanted coz the labour was super long then (26 hours starting from contractions 8mins apart). I really really wanted it for this labour/birth with Jazreel, and hubby was so so supportive. I am so happy to say we did it this time. :) :) :)

Friday 24 Oct
Gynae check up. Baby not engaged, no dilation of cervix at all. Gynae nonchalantly said see you in a week's time. super dissappointed. Went home kept talking to baby.... I am 2 days before EDD. I was kinda getting impatient coz I don't wish to be so overdue (more than 41 weeks) that gynae wants to induce me. I wish to avoid induction.

Saturday 25 Oct.
Slow discharge of mucus plug the whole day. Have read that mucus plug discharge means cervice is thinning and thus prob dilating.

Sunday 26 Oct

2.15am I felt my braxton hicks getting funnier and funnier, more intense, quicker. I didn't time them, but just did my slow breathing and visualisation every time it comes.

2.15-310hrs - I tried sleeping it off, and it was a mark of how tired I am that I realised I DID fall asleep in betw surges, but woke up half way during each surge.

0310hrs
- Knew for sure its the real thing this time. Di (my new instructor) told me if the surge duration is 60-70s apart, GET TO THE hospital. even if I can still talk betw surges. So i tapped sleeping hubby on the shoulder, tap tap tap tap a million times, and that Hubby actually tried irritably shrugging me off before I tell him what's happening, whereupon he came wide awake and started timing.

0330
- 3 surges later, hubby came fully awake coz the surges were 100secs, 80secs then 140secs. and freq is 8mins. Hahaha. I was still in 2 minds whether to go hospital, dun wana a drawn out experience like last time. but we check our notes, YEP we better go.

0505hrs Arranged for my parents to come over, I took a bath, then lie on sofa listening to the cds. Finish packing bag, then off we go.

0527hrs
- arrived. Had a surge in the carpark, leaned on hubby and did balloon visualisation. requested for a pro-hypnobirthing midwive.

0550hrs
- midwife stripped me on CTG and asked me gently if I want a VE. we thought for some time, and agreed. Can't resist not knowing where I am. yeah, its 5 cm! I also agreed to an enema.

0600hrs to 1000hrs
- During the next 4 hours, I did what we have been preparing for all these months. our scripts, visualisation, slow breathing, time distortion, everything. Hubby read the scripts, our room was darkened and relaxing oils are sprinkled all over the room, spa music on in the background, hubby's iphone in my ear and I am playing the hypnobirthing tracks again and again and again. This time I laboured sitting in bed, with the birth ball and my own pillow. I didn't feel like sitting on the birth ball, neither do i feel like walking this time. I wanted to stay focused. Hubby kept asking if I want water (keep me hydrated) and heating the rice socks to soothe my lower back pain during each surge and doing light touch massage for me. I was so deep into the slow breathing and relaxation I didn't wish to talk. Even when I know someone's in the room talking to me, I just grunted. Hubby handled most of it as he has been advised to do.

Felt the surges tripping over each other, almost like 1-3mins apart. Thought of having a VE to check. But yet apprehensive of the results. Nurse happen to come in with the gynae (first time I see the gynae that time), and I asked them to let me think if I want a VE. we called Di. Di was so so nice.. (totally unlike the OTHER hypnobirthing instructor we knew). she told me "go ahead and have the VE, but even if the VE shows you are only say 6cm, remember that it doesn't mean it will take you hours to get there. It may happen much faster than you expect. so go ahead, but dun place too much emphasis on it (and it turns out she was totally RIGHT)." I also asked her shld I listen to the doc to lie down to labour coz doc has commented my sitting up position is causing baby's head to push against my pelvis. Di replied "labour in whichever position your body tells you". I know I didn't wanna lie down flat, but neither do I wanna sit since the doctor said that.

0945hrs - Doctor came in, did VE. She said I am only 6-7cm and added "I am going to burst your water bag, coz 6-7cm after 5hours is too long, I wanna check if baby has passed meconium inside". Then she waited for my decision, with her hand poised to perform that snip, because she knows my birth plan requested no interventions if no medical emergency. It was a super tough decision. Knowing what bursting membranes will do (intensity of surges, affect baby, cascading effect), and also knowing the recent CTG check showed baby is doing well and fine, I replied "Let me think about it". Gynae went out.

I turned to lie on my left. I was starting to worry if I can bear with another few hours of intense surges like this without giving in. but i tried to focus on Di's words, and on the surges itself. Amazingly, within 3 surges, on the 3rd surge, i felt a powerful and uncontrollable feeling down there. so this is what the urge to bear down is like. I rem frantically asking am i pooing or whats happening? What was originally a quiet labour suddenly changed its tone. Hubby called nurse in and nurse went to call doctor after observing for a while. I started making noises I cant control. now i understand why women make so much noise when pushing. Its instinctive.

1030hrs - Seeing that flurry of activities by the doc and nurse, I knew I am finally going to meet my little girl soon. Hubby was wonderful, reminding me to breathe the baby down, breathe the baby down. But with the gynae and nurse commanding me to push and push and push, i think I pushed more than I breathed down. Well, so much for J-breathing. But at least I tried. :P

And so our little Princess Jazreel was borned. :) Drug free, no episiotomy.
Weight 3.42kg
Head Circumference 35cm

Active Jaz came out with the umbilical cord wound twice around her neck. She also nearly came out "en caul" (with waterbag intact). Hubby saw the doctor cut the waterbag as Jaz was crowning. We saw babies being borned en caul in the hypnobirthing videos, but we didn't expect to experience it ourselves.

We are so happy we had the labour and birth we wanted this time. Thanks a MILLION to Di (www.parentlink.org) and to my dearest hubby. Muaks!

Diaper Cake

My team mates from work requested that I take photos of their baby shower pressie, so here it is! Its a lovely Diaper Cake. I saw these babies once in a magazine few months back, and I remembered drooling over it at that time....

Why is it called a "diaper cake"? Coz it's "made of" diapers!
See the ingredients.

A Smile of a 6 Day Old Baby.....

The smile of our Princess Jazreel at 6 Days old...
